If you have been trying hard to lose weight, and you still haven’t seen any results, you probably make some of the mistakes we are writing about today. Yet, we will present the way you can boost your metabolism and lose quickly and easily.

1. Late night meals will result in weight gain

This is one of the most significant myths, however obviously, our body does not store more fat during the night than any other time of the day. It is the food you eat that makes you gain weight, not the time you consume it. Researchers have actually found that eating late during the night does not result in more weight. Namely, this study lasted for 6 months and included people who were divided into 2 groups.

The first one ate their largest meal at breakfast, while the others had their biggest meal after 8 pm. It was found that people who ate their largest meal after 8 pm lost 10 percent more body fat and lost 11 percent more weight than the ones who ate their largest meal at breakfast. The only time that late night eating is problematic is when it is very high in calories.

2. Small meals during the day will boost metabolism

This is entirely incorrect, as the speed of the metabolism does not depend on the number of meals during the day. Every person must find his own meal frequency regimen. Eating on a few hours will prevent overeating, but it will not help you lose weight much faster or accelerate your metabolism.

3. Extreme, low-calorie diets help you lose weight fast

If you consume fewer calories than your body needs in order to work properly, the resting metabolic rate (meaning your metabolism) will decrease, so it would be much more challenging to lose weight. Scientists have discovered that diets that are lower than 1200 calories lead to the biggest decrease in your RMR (Resting Metabolic Rate).

4. All calories are not created equal

This last one is actually true. Our body processes different types of food differently, as we burn 20-30 percent of all consumed ‘protein’ calories, 6 percent of all ‘carbohydrate’ calories, and 3 percent of all ‘fat’ calories in the digestion process. You should focus on protein, as it is burned the quickest, even without exercising.

This procedure is called the Thermal Effect of Food (TEF). For example, if you ate 1000 calories of chicken and 1000 calories of ice-cream, you would gain more weight with ice-cream, since only 3 percent of the fat from the ice cream would burn in the digestion process, compared with the 20-30 percent of the protein in chicken.
